What effects if any does stress has on our Genes? A review of pertinent literature indicates the short answer is found in the world of Epigenetics – the science studying factors that affect how and whether certain genes are expressed without altering our genetic makeup. 

Although ONE’s primary focus is scientific research, occasionally we receive accounts from practitioners and/or patients detailing the effectiveness of NET, and reminding us once again why we support ONE. Here a patient of Dr. Lawrence Bakur describes how her lifelong allergy to cats was eliminated through NET. 

On Sept. 27th, in Carlsbad CA at the celebration of NET’s 25th and ONE’s 20th anniversaries, Daniel Monti, M.D. and Andrew Newberg, M.D., of Thomas Jefferson Medical University, revealed the future of ONE Foundation’s research initiative on NET before a packed crowd of practitioners and guests.

In the year of ONE’s 20th anniversary we are honored that Dr. Andrew Specht, one of our 1st presidents, shared a little time with us to reflect on the work and mission of the Foundation. 

In its 2nd year, Heal Christchurch is a collaborative event to bring healing to the people of Christchurch, NZ who were impacted by the destructive earthquakes of 2011. In 2012 Dr. Scott Walker and volunteer practitioners from New Zealand and Australia came together to treat those whose health and wellbeing were impacted by the devastating earthquakes. In Nov. 2013 volunteers will again work to heal the local communities. Dr. Walker described last year’s event as the highlight of his professional career. ONE encourages interested practitioners to volunteer. 

On Sept. 26th–28th we will celebrate ONE’s 20th and NET’s 25th anniversaries at the NET Homecoming Success seminar! Keynote speakers Dr. Dan Monti and Dr. Andrew Newberg will discuss their groundbreaking research on the effects of NET on stress reduction for recovering cancer patients. 

Periodically we receive reports from our practitioners and supporters regarding the benefits of ONE’s research; below are a few we’d like to share. 

A practitioner member recalls that she delivered a public healthcare talk during which a member of the audience, a neuroscientist, asked if there was research supporting the facts presented in the speech. Our doctor replied, “Absolutely, and here they are!” The inquisitive neuroscientist became a patient. YAHOO!!

Dr. A.L. Rosner reports, the study on manual muscle testing and therapy localization is progressing through the inter-examiner reliability phase, with the instrumentation phase (electromyography, electrogoniometery, vibromyography) given to the statisticians in late May. Congratulations, to Dr. Rosner and team for this quality research effort. 

The ONE Research Foundation is providing funding for a new research study: Reliability and Validity of Therapy Localization in Applied Kinesiology II: Conformation and Generalizability of Outcomes. The literature describing the interobserver reliability in manual muscle testing as practiced in applied kinesiology is sparse and inconsistent. That describing the validity is even weaker, existing in less than 5 papers. This study will provide critical missing pieces to the literature of applied kinesiology.

Caroline Peterson, D.C., Ph.D., MPH, CPM has volunteered to join ONE’s Research Committee.

Doing so could lead to healthier outcomes and potentially favorably impact modifiable risk factors for cancer recurrence.

Albert Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Indeed, if the progress of mankind were to be attributed to a single element above all others, it would have to be the discovery process that emerges from research.

As most are somewhat aware, Christchurch has suffered through four major quakes since February 22, 2010 and still experience ongoing (9,000 and counting) aftershocks.

The ONE Research Foundation has been focusing on healing methods that embrace the BioPsychoSocial (BPS) Model. One simple expression of the BPS health paradigm is the “Triad of Health.” The “triad” is illustrated by an equilateral triangle listing the three major causes of health problems: structural, chemical, and emotional. 

For the last six years, Dr. Tom has combined his love of jazz, The ONE Research Foundation, and his community by celebrating all three with an open house. The community has donated everything from the food, balloons, and music to the silent auction items. Dr. Tom’s clients, friends, and their friends all come together for this special town event. 

Next Semester NET will be offered as a selective at Parker University. This constitutes progress for the Biopsychosocial Model and NET in the healing arts.
